    • "I found in notes of John Gentry, son of Uncle Charlie, that James and Susanna stood before a preacher and were married in late 1830, then got Married with license in 1833."
SOURCE: Chris = autocadmonkey@yahoo.com (originally from Louis Gentry??)

This would explain the discrepancy between the official wedding date in 1833 and the birth of their first son in 1832.

HOWEVER: All earñy records were destroyed in the 1850 courthouse file in Sullivan, so how did this one survive.

Also, the typeface on the printed form is identical to that of the Ash Hollow job application. I SMELL A HOAX!!

      Marriage License:
Madison County, State of Missouri. Be it remembered that James L. Gentry and Harriet L. Laster were solemnized in the holy bonds of matrimony by me the undersigned minister of the gospel on the 27th day of December, 1866. Pinkney Graham. ...

This information bears out the story that Harriet had been married before and that her husband, a certain Mr Laster, had been killed in the Civil War. There were many Lasters/Lasiters living in the neighborhood where Harriet grew up. Now to find which one!

      Dear Roy,

My face is red!!!!!! After I wrote you yesterday I printed out your letter
and my reply and found I had not read all of your letter. So here is the
answer for the rest of it:

I checked out my past issues of THE GENTRY FAMILY GAZETTE AND GENEALOGY
EXCHANGE for your James Louis Gentry. Just found two and I am sure you
have that information but never the less here it is:

In August 1984 was an ancestor chart from Grace Josephine (Gentry)
Blissitte. Her gr grandfather was James Lewis Gentry b 07-9-1840 In, m
27-12-1866, d 10-1917 Dover AR. Wife Harriet Louisa Morgan
b 15-9-1847 AR, d 17-9-1903 Dover AR. Grace descends thru son Thomas
Jefferson Gentry and then James Cullen Gentry.

Next one is from December 1984 issue and is a letter.

      >From Mrs. Wesley P. Ayres of Los Altos Hills, California
to Ronald L. Gentry of Cordell, Oklahoma:

"Is my great grandmother, Sarah Frances Gentry, a sister to your
grandfather, James Louis Gentry b 07-9-1840 in Tennessee or Indiana?
All I know about her is that she was born 4-10-1838, Indiana and married
22-2-1855 (where?) to William Perry Fouts. She died 10-12-1893 at
Soldier's and Sailor's Home Grand Island Nebraska.

"Their wedding picture is on the cover of the October 1982 issue of the
Gazette, and in Feb. 1983 a query ran concerning her, but I have not had
      any nibbles.

"Birth dates and places of the two might mean we have found new cuzzinns."

A reply from the Editor (I think) says:

"The James Gentry family of Macon Co, MO in 1860 appears to be the same as
the James Gentry family of St. Louis Co. Mo in 1850 (pg 369 of census,
house #1381). Since the first six children listed were al born in Indiana
(according to the census) and since your James Louis was born there also in
1840, the head of this family should be one of the James' listed in the
1840 census of Indiana. Only one realy qualifies with the numbers of
children required or thereabouts; James of Sullivan Co. Our records on
Sullivan are incomplete and marriage records prior to 1850 are not extant,
Of course they may not have married there at all. Could you contact other
older family members who might know their place of Marriage?"

They can only be contacted thru the gazette and here is address-----
      Richard Hayden Gentry
      Box 1055
      McLean, VA 22101.
