Place of death not confirmed (1995)

After the death of his 2nd wife in 1850, Henry Levering moved to Medway (Hot Springs) Arkansas in 1852 where he was the postmaster .

"By the way, the Leverings in America began as Quakers , or at least leaned that way for a while. They were of various occupations including mercantile business and farming. And Henry Levering in Arkansas ran a stage coach service, though very little of that is known. Most of Henry's info and that of Hannah's has long been lost, mainly due to the fact that they couldn't get their family info together in time for th publication of the Family History and I don't know what became of it."
[Letter from Jerry Chronister to Helen and Lester Ingram, 1986.]

Henry Levering married a third time in Arkansas to a Mrs Mary Hughes. (source: Marriage License and "Levering Family History and Genealogy" by Col John Levering (see below)).

In the autumn of 1865, during my military service as
Adjt.-Gen'l of the Dept. of Arkansas, with headquarters
at Little Rock, I was visited by a young man bearing a
letter from Henry Levering, introducing the bearer as his
stepson, Wm. Hughes. Having seen my name frequently
in official publications by the Little Rock newspapers, he
desired to make himself known, assert his loyalty and
inquire concerning me. I learned that he had married a
third time, to a Mrs. Hughes, whose son was his messen-
ger. I have made effort in this work to learn further of
him. Answer reported him dead and the family removed.

    3rd REGIMENT, ARKANSAS INFANTRY
3rd Infantry Regiment, assembled at Lynchburg, Virginia, in June, 1861, contained men from Ashley, Drew, Desha, Hot Spring, Union, and Dallas counties. Assigned to H.R. Jackson's command, the unit took part in Lee's Cheat Mountain Campaign, then moved to Winchester and served under T.J. Jackson. Later it was assigned to General J. G. Walker's, J. B. Robertson's, and J. Gregg's command and became part of the Texas Brigade. After fighting in the Seven Days' Battles the 2nd Arkansas Battalion merged into the regiment. It went on to participate in many conflicts of the Army of Northern Virginia from the Maryland Campaign to Cold Harbor, except when it was with Longstreet at Suffolk, Chickamauga, and Knoxville. The 3rd was active in the long Petersburg siege north of the James River and later the Appomattox Campaign. In December, 1861, it totalled 756 men, and reported 15 casualties at the Greenbrier River and 182 during the Maryland Campaign. Of the 479 engaged at Gettysburg, thirty-five percent were disabled. The regiment surrendered with 15 officers and 130 men. The field officers were Colonels Van H. Manning, Albert Rust, and Robert S. Taylor; Lieutenant Colonels Seth M. Barton and William H. Tebbs; and Majors J. Hickson Capers, and John W. Reedy, Samuel W. Smith, and W.K. Wilkins.

Hanna was a daughter of the LEVERING family, a prominent Pennsylvania landowning family, who fell in love with and married a southern widower from Arkansas with several children before the Civil War. This didn't please her family so she was disenherited. Her marriage certificate says she was 21, but she was actually 15 or 16 years old. She lied to be able to marry.

"Our family line had moved to Baltimore, MD and later on to Ohio in Fairfield Co. By the time HANNAH was born our line lived in Cincinnati. Later they moved to Hot Springs Co, Arkansas where in 1859 she married Henry Hulan, a Southern gent, and was subsequently disowned from the family though I don't know if her father Henry Levering disowned her or not, him living and marrying again in Arkansas."
